Make Your Own Sketchbook

A RISD student's most deeply personal and intimate belonging is their sketchbook. Okay, maybe their Macbook. Okay, maybe their iPhone. But uh, unlike those cellphones and laptops, a sketchbook is easy to make and the process is super-rewarding. Natalie Shields (GD '15) taught students a spread of bookbinding techniques in the type shop. Everyone constructed a sketchbook uniquely their own with accordion folds, coptic stitches, marbled paper, colorful covers and the pleasant smell of beeswax. Instead of the cookie-cutter sketchbooks from the RISD store, now we can all pour ourselves into sketchbooks that are much closer to our hearts.  <3 <3 <3
